Swimming, visiting with young kids, beach picnic, practicing how to snorkel, escaping the crowds, learning Hawaiian history.
Not So Good For:
Finding parking on weekends, prone to runoff after a storm, can be very windy in the afternoons.

The fishpond area can get crowded with families, but the northern section of beach is rarely-visited and has shade and soft white sand.

Also, if it's open, be sure to stop in to the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary Visitor Center that's located right on the beach (you can't miss it).

Directions and Parking Situation:
The beach park is located on the side of South Kihei Road between Kaonoulu and Kalanihakoi streets. It's on the northern side of Menehune Shores condo and there is a small parking lot with about ten stalls.
Facilities:
Port a potties, shower, picnic tables, protected swimming area for young kids.
