Mai Poina 'Oe Ia'u Beach

Mai Poina 'Oe I'au Beach Kihei Maui
Overview: If you find yourself wondering "Why don't I come here more often?," you're not alone when it comes to this beach, which is located in the heart of North Kihei.

Essentially en extension of Sugar Beach, Mai Poina 'Oe I'au has modern facilites as well as a grassy park, and by morning it's popular with standup paddlers, though windsurfers take over by noon.

It's also within walking distance of numerous Kihei condos, which are essentially "oceanfront" if you don't cont the fact that you have to cross the road.

You can even snorkel here on days when it's calm, and this beach is definitely a little-known gem that's pristine on days without wind.

Good For: Long walks on the beach, picnics, standup paddling, windsurfing, and occassionaly snorkeling, if it's calm.

Not So Good For: Afternoons can be REALLY windy—especially in summer. You can also hear the road from the beach and there isn't much food within walking distance.

Maui Expert Tip For Mai Poina 'Oe I'au Beach: This is a popular spot for shorecasting if you feel like days at the beach are best spent with a cooler, rod, and a reel.
Directions and Parking Situation: If you're driving through North Kihei on South Kihei Road, the only way to miss this beach is if you're driving with your eyes closed (it's literally right on the side of the road).

The main section of beach (with most of the parking) is just south of the junction with Ohukai Road. Or, if you're staying in a North Kiehi condo, just walk across the street and you're there.
