Pohaku Beach Park (aka "S Turns")
Overview:
While it isn't Maui's largest beach, Pohaku Beach Park (more commonly known as S Turns) is the best beach within walking distance if you're staying in a condo in Kahana.
The beach is mostly frequented by surfers and paddleboarders in winter, when swells create waves that are much more manageable than the heavier surf breaks up north.
This is a great spot if you've rented a board and are still learning to surf, but it's a long paddle out to the waves—which can also mean a long ride.
Aside from surfers, the park is popular with locals who come to fish and drink beer on the weekends and after work, and the vibe here is always laidback with people just living the island life.

Surfing, standup paddling, picnics, sunsets, and chatting with colorful locals.
Not So Good For:
Snorkeling, swimming, entering the water after a heavy rain (the area is prone to runoff)
Maui Expert Tip For Pohaku Beach Park:
If you plan to go surfing, get here early—the dawn patrol crowd is classic.
Directions and Parking Situation:
From Honoapi'ilani Highway turn down Ho'ohui Road (where the McDonalds is on the corner).
Once you've reached the bottom of the hill turn left and drive for .3 miles. There is a small parking lot that can get crowded on weekends, and overflow parking is available on the street if you drive back toward Ho'ohui Road.
